When in doubt play PLO8 or O8. If you're bored but focused open another table. It might be a great time to work some PLO8 cash multi-tabling.

I really like how I've been playing Lim O8 lately... it's prob b/c we're playing so low in those nick dime games that I don't ever feel fear. If you feel fear, short buy! New concept. Play 25bb... Find 1 good spot and go w/ it. If that game's not running open a nick dime and dime 20 and they'll prob fill up.

If there is not a good Omaha 8 thing to do and you don't feel ready to jump into a cash-game, play a cheap double or nothing. You will have to make 1-2 moves. Just make 'em. Play low enough where you're not afraid.

This is not the time to take shots. This is the time to return to what has been working for months, specializing and game selection. Yes, the PLO 2xs were total cake and now they're not. That doesn't mean that they're not beatable as fuck. You just have to adjust. It's all a flip! It's not like NL where you might run your JJ into AA or whatever. This works for and against you.

PLO high: If your move doesn't take down the pot (and you must have fold equity) then you'll probably be 45%.

PLO8: If you don't take down the pot/steal the blinds etc, you'll often back into 1/2 the pot if you play the right hands.

You want 1 caller. If you get so short that multiple players are sure to call your jam just to end the match/get the KO, then you fucked up. Go w/ the 1st mway hand you get.

Tonight is about refocusing.

Scout the games. Take your time. Make sure you have edge before you sit. Not doing that is impatient and lazy, just like staying so level 1 about certain shit is.

GAME SELECT. FOCUS. SPECIALIZE.

SECONDARILY STAND UP WHEN IT FEELS RIGHT!

The HORSE games are bad. The S8 games are bad. That doesn't mean that any 1 session is gonna go well. Don't play H unless the group sucks. What if you pretty much sat out H, S? Nobody notices or cares.

Just stand up.

Getting the .10/.20 games going is lower variance. Might as well start the table esp @ peak hours.

Merge downswing: orders from the boss

'm officially on a downswing on merge. I have been running bad, but I've also been playing like a vag. I have to recognize that every time I've taken a shot in a bigger MTT I've made some uber nitty folds down the stretch... I played too tight.

Taking shots is not what's gonna get me out of this. Hey... You built that roll playing $1 PLO 2xs. Maybe play 'em more so you can @ least play fearlessly.... when they run a lot.

The Boss says keep w/ the cash-games as long as it feels right:
only .10/25 HORSE, .10/20 or 5.10 O8, .10/20 S8.

I'm starting to prefer 6-max HORSE b/c you don't have to sit around folding as long. Good thing that's what's running.

Similarly you are good @ short-handed S8 games. It might be worth starting that game on spec planning to play hu for a while. If you don't get chasey and hope I get 1/2 dumb then you tend to do ok. If the player is good and it doesn't feel right, quit him.

It's time to rebuild the merge roll... I'm just not quite sure how. Grinding cash-games hit and run style is satisfying lately. I never tried multi-tabling those .80 Lim H games. Try that.

What can I grind profitably?

*Can I get .10/.20 HORSE custom games started enough to beat the rake?
**or is it that the larger .25 big bet is what allows for beating the rake short-handed. Good early st play is rewarded.
***I should weight my stud game decisions on 5th st towards folds in marginal spots, considering there's an extra 1/2 small bet in ever single big bet.
****Does it make sense to take riskier that usual trappy lines vs. lags so that when you spring the trap it's for .25 not .20? Is it worth more 6th and 7th st value raises? Is it worth playing rivers less passive JUST IN CASE the dude is gonna fold?

It is unconvential Lim structure and there have to be adjustments playing 5 games

1. H: higher variance/bigger pots. Play ABC tag. If 3-handed or less sit out if possible b/c you'll blind off folding A3o on the button and shit.
2. O: I'm comfortable. What hands do we profit from on late sts... lock up 1 side live outs the other way. Jam the pot in slightly more marginal spots when ur essentially or literally freerolling
3. R: Business as usual. Since people dry bluff more, it might make sense to slow-play more 4th and 5th sts, pretending you paired up or are shutting down. Then charge 'em to draw @ their thrashed shit
4. S: Starting to feel better about it. Over-calling bring-ins w/ 3 big card hands... not ideal but good short-handed. If it's a raise back 2u u have max info. Only do w/ hands you'd call 1 bet w/. Fold for 2 or 3 bets. Boom like that. Esp call w/ high 3str8s and 3 flushes w/ big cards in LP/closing action
5 E: Just value raise your face off in mway pots w/ big hands. Let people peel w/ synches, wheels and shit. Past that just put the chips in there if you're good 1 way and drawing live the other way

****I've been chasing a little light not discounting my outs for dead cards. Remember you're playing to scoop in S8. Vs. abunch of low boards w/ 2 3s and a 6 dead, how powerful is your 245? Push pull. Muck most razz hands.

PLO 2xs Sharky. Don't dream it's over

It's happened way too many times for it to not be the case... these things are now filled w/ tags and sharks, not nearly enough random clicks.

I just played a $5 w/ the hope that it'd be spewie. It was above avg.

So here's how to proceed
1. Don't play>$2 since it doesn't seem to matter anymore
2. Start a list of good regulars and donks bad enough to be worth playing w/

Approach game sel more like PLO8 2xs. It depends.

So wtf to do on merge if those are bunk? I'm not really feeling the $1 NLs. The only fun part is winning. Either way, I'd have to open up and play more... just folding to it has become too high variance.

REGARDLESS, NO MATTER THE BI, NO MATTER THE SITUATION, YOU CANNOT LOSE FOLD EQUITY. PUT YOUR CHIPS IN THE MIDDLE.

*That miguel guy who plays every $1NL is a break even or -1 player
*PLO will mean more hands colliding, but it's also all flipping when you do put the chips in. They're only low variance w/ bad players who are playing the structure badly.

You have to steal more and never fold big hands.

*Consider tbanking w/ a stack like 1200-1500 7 handed w/ 2 really short stacks, esp w/ 1 afk or w/ more chips. it's your kinda move... saw rex kiss do today. If you don't play fn pots you don't have to flip. That was the idea. It's a +EV move just like tbanking last few players before the $ short in mtts.

I read that thing by Caro this AM.

That's a really good way to approach this. Put a name on it. Then you can kinda distance yourself. Each bad beat or frustrating experience is a unique one. Even AA vs KK... something was unique about that spot prob.

The boss tells me about game selection and what types of things I'm going to be focusing on in addition to my usual strategy.

Today the boss says:
Don't play away games. The things we're assessing the profitability of right now are both on merge, the horse and s8 .10/.20 and .10/.25 cash-games. Other than that and the few cheapo exceptions we make, lay off the away games.

We grinded our roll up to where we are playing the same shit over and over. Has there ever really been a big score? Not so much. Once got a top 4 in the 2100 or something.

Stay with that. That is your primary instruction. If you don't feel like playing something decidedly +EV, do something free or cheap.

We'll quantify free or cheap as a TOTAL $2 bi<. 2 $1 tables etc...

Don't just fuck around in the cash-games unless it feels right.

Don't keep playing PLO8 SNGs and MTTs just b/c you feel like you should be beating the games. We've identified what's different about the 24-maxes. Play those a lot.... but try not to be blinded by that. It seems like the truly profitable PLO8 MTTs start @ $5. We're currently not in a position to play that high.

Recognize that confidence is a big part of what accounts for your upswings. Sure you have to hit a hand here and there playing MTTs... but when I'm describing the experience of playing things like Omaha 2xs and 24-max, I say "I'm coming in every time feeling like I'm going to win."

That is the only way we play. Your abi on Merge was $1 for a long time, b/c you were playing those $1 PLOs. They're prob good confidence builders. They're not good to play when you just want to do something cheap and fun... mostly b/c they're not fun. It's a folding contest. When you're not focused, you look for reasons to play too many hands. This is not that spot.

EMPLOYEE:
But I want to play PLO8 MTTs b/c they're fun and the other players are so bad.

BOSS:
There is no should. There's only sample size and results. Structure is what makes the difference. Do not continue to play structures that have not been profitable just b/c you wish they were. Play the $2 PLO8 on Merge this AM. Don't let the results dictate your reaction... did you feel like you were able to use your skill edge adequately? Did you play scared?

If you play those, play for 1st. Pick good spots.

What did JP say.
1. Go for squeeze plays w/ fold equity vs the idiots
2. Making an aggressive move w/ fold equity is ok b/c you'll often win 1/2 the pot since these guys play shit
-IE any A2.

What did I learn from sitting w/ Jerry and JP
1. Don't play marginal hands just b/c it's cheap. Laid a sick price sure. Just never play for 1/2 the pot or play pots that
2. There is a tremendous difference between pre-flop hand selection early/deep and shorter. When shorter, until it's go w/ anything decent time, pick good spots and play them aggressively.

3. Usually bet 1/2-2/3 pot post-flop... or pot if vs. pow etc. Play small ball.

4. Recognize that the role position plays in PLO8 has a lot less to do w/ stealing than in NL. You don't have as much fold equity.

5. Don't throw weirdo semi-bluffs out there just to see if it'll work. Wait for a better spot.

BOSS: Game selection is your job. Don't try to chance your style all @ once. Just play the best you can, listen to your gut, take your time, & make the best decisions you can.

Question 85: Is it bad attitude that causes us not to play our best poker all the time?

Bad attitude isn’t the cause; it’s the result. The cause is bad planning.

When we first sit down in a poker game, we’re determined to play our best. But opponents can irritate us. Dealers can infuriate us. Bad beats can happen.

And sometimes we begin to respond emotionally, playing too many hands, calling too many bets, making irrational bluffs, or wagering the wrong amounts at the wrong times.

Unhappy things

That’s usually because we didn’t plan for the obvious. When you leave home and head for the poker table, remind yourself that unhappy things will always happen — sometimes minor, sometimes major. You need to decide that you’ll stick to your best game, no matter what.

And the way to do that is to divide yourself in two. Pretend you’re two different people:

You’re the boss who stays home after giving the commands; and you’re also the obedient employee who goes off and does that job. You’ll continue to get paid if you act as the boss has instructed; otherwise, you’ll be fired and go broke.

When you use that psychological trick, you have no choice but to play profitably, because you can’t modify your instructions until you return home and talk to your boss. And guess what? In the long run, you really will get paid if you follow the boss’ orders; and if you don’t, you won’t.

Question 86: How should you react when a dealer costs you the pot?

Dealers don’t cost you pots or win you pots. Events are just events; dealers are just dealers. And a dealer malfunction is simply an event that might have worked in your favor, instead of against you. That’s the right attitude.

True, a good dealer will distribute cards efficiently and you’ll get to play more hands per hour. Beyond that, it doesn’t really matter much whether the dealer makes mistakes. Consider it to be just another added shuffle that changes the cards.

Question 87: How do you handle not getting your fair share of cards?

I handle it by not caring.

Focusing on whether the cards are being equally distributed in fair shares will drive you crazy. It’s a tough, time-consuming job trying to keep track. And you really can’t do anything about it, anyway.

So let your opponents be frustrated by unfavorable card distribution. You? Just concentrate on making great decisions.

Question 88: Does it hurt to tell opponents that you’re unlucky?

Yes.

Complaining about your merciless misfortune is just an attempt to extract empathy from opponents. Here’s a tip: Opponent’s aren’t empathetic.

Instead of making them feel sorry for you, you’re merely pointing out that you’re vulnerable. They’re likely to think, “Hey, there’s someone unluckier than I am — someone I can beat!”

Result

And as a result of their renewed confidence, they’ll play better against you. Complaining costs money.

Here’s another psychological trick I teach: Cheer for your opponents. It does wonders for your attitude.

You won’t negatively affect the cards you’re dealt, so there’s no penalty. If you lose a pot, you’re on the winning side. And if you win a pot, you get a consolation prize — the money!

Question 89: Should I be content to accept a reasonable win and quit, rather than risk losing for the night?

Usually, doing so is bad policy.

This behavior stems from the notion that you need to go home winning. That’s the wrong attitude.

If you’re a superior player in a profitable game, think of it as an opportunity to make more money by remaining. You get paid by the hour in poker.

You’ll have ups and downs, and you could easily lose your profit and leave losing. But if you cash out now, you might forfeit a lot of extra money. Over time, assuming you’re motivated and not tired, the more hours you play against weaker opponents, the richer you’ll be next year.

Question 90: Will pretending to be lucky help me win?

Well, pretending to be lucky won’t change the cards. But it will have an influence on your opponents.

What many opponents fear most is your good luck. If they believe you’re lucky, they feel intimidated and make poorer decisions. So help their perception along: Pretend to be lucky, even when fate has been disappointing you.

All of today’s questions and answers demonstrate that your attitude really does matter in poker. Bring an even temperament to the table. Be willing to accept either good or bad cards equally and simply focus on making the right choices.

In the long run, if you have enough skill, you’ll win. In the short term, why waste your time worrying about luck? You can spend that same mental energy more wisely by focusing on poker strategy. — MC

1. Deepo, not good. Not happy w/ my play. Shoved J9 udg short & ran into some big hands but I could've/should've
-folded through. it's the same situation; you need a double up. U might get a bb spec or will be in LP, which is prob worth the chips even around 10bb.
-Or it's fine and I just lost
2. PLO 2x $1 W
3. $2 L (bubble... got short. uneventful.)
4. 2 $2 PLO8s on Cake 2-0... Happy w/ my play. I'm starting to get a sense of how many randoms it takes to have max edge. My list is growing... there seem 2b more randoms, but it could just be the long weekend.

5. .50 2r 1a 24-max. Cash 4th on bb. Very deep on the bubble... effective stacks around 30-40bb 4-handed. Another reason to get better @ short-handed play.
-These are great ones for me to play!!! I get to start w/ 3k and these idiots will only play so badly b/c of the max 2 add-ons. Take 3k up front... worst case it's 4 bis.
-accordingly lets stick to the .50s when possible until convinced.
-or really a $1 is a $3 usually. Starting w/ 3k w/ only 3 levels b4 the addon I like my chances.

PLO frustrating @ the moment. I got it in the last 2 bubbles w/ a sick draw... whatever. I can't win them all. It'd be interesting to compare my $2 to $3 results. $3s do play spewier it seems. The Ras and Jason Xs might play $2 but rarely $3 and not $5.

Wow... Going w/ my gut unfiltered is going well lately. I was playing a $1 NL SG on Cake last night and, starting w/ a dead $ grab w/ k4s from the sb on hand 1 (bet flop took down)... I was really on top of it. Use that as your randomization process. Go w/ your gut...
Bet-sizing might be the one exception... but then again that works pretty well to.

It'd be a cool expiriment to keep playing $1s all loose and goofy (I think I was 42 17 or something)... but mostly just making more moves and doing more weird shit. If I can get away from these big startings hands @ the right time (and the feel fold could be a self ful proph... will miss flop 2/3 of time)... the correlate to balance that out is making confusing plays.

If I over-limp AQs in pos 1 hand then get caught going for a steal... it'll confuse people. They'll think I'm a spew tard, then I'll just play solid.

IE thought to myself "AK gets called by worse hands" and super shoved over a UDG limp, getting called by an idiot's A4o. I won too.

Go w/ that voice in your head. All these old school players who are just thinking board textures, pot odds, implied odds... not crazy combo zoon mode... Mixing it up is ok, as long as you have some reference point for them. It's no good to make some random move if it does 0 for my table image. On the other hand, 1st impressions are lasting. 1 donk play, esp a winning play, and they'll love me.

Residual Last Hand Glitch:

I've found lately that I'm tempted to play hands that either I just had and wouldn't hit with or somebody else just won a big pot w/... often big card hands. Recognize that and think twice before making that move... Just becoming aware.
-Don't factor things in like "this could be THE J9 I WAS THINKING OF" ie today's deepo. I was dealt J9s +1 and folded. I think I should've moved in. Next hand J9o, shove KO.

Good thing to recognize. Try to id how that feels differently from the fear response or true gut feeling.

You have to find some format to start opening up your game in. Those $1 10-min sngs are not idea... but you have a lot of play in your stack for quite a while. I am curious how I'd do in NL 6-max games, but I'm trying not to play away games so much.

SG1 on Cake might be a great place to splash around, 3-bet light more, play my pos more, float more, semi-bluff more. Only do this when you really want to.

Early mid play in the deepo is a good time too. You have to accumulate w/ those 5min levels. You have to go for more plays based on steal equity.That thing's $1.

It's fine line. Just b/c you've been playing lag and it's been working doesn't mean you can't gear back. Look @ your own stats... if ridic, you can slow down. Anybody w/ a hud or paying attention... that's the right adjustment. The 1-gear LAG thing only is profitable in situations where you... as Jerry said "make moves then be around long enough to capitalize on them."

This is why deep-stack cash-game buy-ins, deep MTTs (WSOPC 10ks are a great place to try this style... go w/ gut. Make moves. You have 5 zillion bb.)

Play chip NL is ridic. Learn what you can when playing the mixed-games @ 'high lims' but... not the best forum.

If I keep running it up and/or become more confident in my NL game, I can start to play some $4 bis/100bb. Do I do better in PLO8 cash-games? They suit my style better... perfect example... In a game like that where you should play tight preflop, I have to be patient and wait for a good spot. Hit and runs don't work as well b/c you're just not likely to set up that freeroll right off the bat.

Re PO/NO $: I should play some. If I'm really going to make my living @ this ever, I need to do it. Hopefully we're still going up on Cake. Maybe look into those 10 min level NL SNGs on Merge, whatever they are. 2.20 18 mans? Meh

PLO8 SNG MTT short breakdown

1. 24-maxes on Cake.. proceed as you have. Be patient. Be smart.
2. MTTs on Merge: Only if you really want to, don't care about the bi and feel like you're ready to move some chips. Try to recognize the importance of stealing and playing LAG @ 30/60 and/or 40/80. I often feel like 50/100 just hits me out of nowhere.
Adjustments: No fear. No MCU. Just go w/ +EV situations. If the game's super loose, see more flops in position w/ 'ashman' kinda hands. Factor in the fact that you need to get top 10 from jump, like JP said.
3. 2bl ups: It's only a slam dunk like the PLOs on Merge w/ some bad players. You've still done very well vs. the regs. The correct adjustment is to just open up on the bubble and not vag around.

4. 1 table SNGs on merge.. adjust by never falling into the "well these guys suck, they'll just KO everybody for me" mentality. That's what leaves you w/ the awkward/short stack when it matters. It's frustrating to never get to open a pot, but you have to adjust and playing like a total rock isn't it.

5. HU SNGs... Just don't do dumb impulsive shit, esp calling for a big % of my stack "going low." Play fewer pots oop. Considering I'm HU and the starting hand values run so close, position makes all the difference. It's easier to get value from my good hands. It's easier to bluff. It's easier to get away from marginal spots.

Always think about position more!!!! This IS THE GAME where it matters most.. don't just say that, know it and adjust.

Thoughts on PLO8 game selection/Killing Randoms in 2xs

Bink I just went 4-0 in an awesomely fun run in the po2xs like I haven't ever had. There were all these new randoms... buncha games in quick succession.

I was particularly happy w/a play I made vs. shocker... but then it might have been kinda donkish.
It was blind on blind and I flopped trips jacks w/ no low ace kicker. Limp pot. I check called the flop which was my comittment decision. The flop went check check then I check called 600 on the turn w/ 725 behind. I almost folded since there was so much splish splashing, but... even if he had a boat I had outs. I spiked an Ace on the river, jammed into him and her showed trip js w/ a 5 kicker. I got full value. He's a tight player.

PLO8 2XS
I do fine just fine vs. the regulars and should still try to solve the how many donks needed to turn a turbo event like that into something as low variance as how the PLO 2xs often are. Vs. the regs, I have to get involved or run good.

Beating those handily is all about playing w/ the randoms. When they're in there, it's a slam dunk. It seems like they can't go broke fast enough. Maybe I have to explore the notion of either comitting to playing a bunch of those and seeing how I do vs. the regs 2. same thing but only play when I really want 3. find something else more +EV/lower variance sometimes when it's all the nits and TAGs.

PLO8 SNGS
I played one today and bubbled ocular again. I got it in w/ 12,000,000 outs... whatever. It's hard to "get a word in edgewise" vs those donks. I just have to accept the fact that if there are 2xs running, I should just do that. It might be profitable when they're running $2s over and over on merge... but really... look @ my results...

If I ever scoop a big pot it's on but damn... I just bubble or get 3rd a lot.

Even if it seems like a 10 min lvl PLO8 SNG should be +EV for me... it's just not right now. Lol sample size. It might be interesting to check stats on the better regulars.

PLO8 MTTS
iI had a mega-frustrating run in the $2 AM mtt, inspired by JPs destruction of everything recently. Those are another story. I chipped up to 7k and was chip leader w. 2/3 of the field left.. a couple missed draws and lots of folding later I found myself MCUing hardcore, very short.

There were a couple good spots I passed on when I had all the chips b/c, as usual, my table was full of donks. I have to just do the +EV thing in those... There's nothing different about picking up a prem PLO8 hand vs. something like JJ or AKo. I just gotta play it.

I finished out of the $. I really felt like I couldn't get a word in... unless I 3-bet, nearly every pot was limped or opened b4 it got to me. This sounds like a great problem. It is as long as you hit a couple big hands now and again. It seems that those good pre-flop spots that came up when I had all the chips were all I was gonna get. W/out doing anything that nitty in terms of hand selection... I bled the fuck out and finished 13th when 9 or 10 paid.

Then I tried my hand @ the $3 H.O again. 1st off, fuck not having a hud. I am hud spoiled. The players are awful, but it's a mixed-game... so they're not THAT awful... and it's 1/2 hold 'em. I made another deep run to end up short in end game and loose on some sick beat.

This AM I played the 9min lvl $2 one again and min-cashed. I could easily have bubbled again.

I see these ridic players chipping up over and over... it makes me wonder if the Deppen cash-game style is optimal for games like that. Maybe I have to see more flops knowing that these guys will stack it light... esp in LP.

I was opening for like 2.25x, IE 400 @ 75/150. That's a good open for normal deep PLO8 play. Stick w/ it. Use round numbers not 55s.

IT'S ALL ABOUT WAITING UNTIL I CAN PLAY HIGHER?
One can make a killing playing PLO8 MTTs on Merge. I see JP doing it. From jump when I saw the MTTs I was like "ok I have to get to where I can grind these $5-11 events." There are a lot more short-handed pots and a lot less donking around, especially in end game... or it seems that way from watching John. Also they have the best structue, 5k stacks... rebuy events where you can start deep w/ great payouts.

But I'm not there. When I have played the $5 12min level deep one, the only one I can responsibly play... I've just been a vag. I should really want to play to get up in that and prob be on a PLO8 MTT upswing of some sort/high confidence.

So... whatever my future holds for O8 MTTs... I think I should stick w/ what's working. If I want to play one, go 4 it. Otherwise, it's just something to look fwd to. You've gotta play for 1st in these small fields... I guess the goal is still get to the $5> level or grow some balls & be ready to lose a few buy-ins.

But maybe I should just fn play SNGs and the few MTTs that I come into feeling like I'm gonna win. The $2 AM one is an exception... it's just $2. Considering a min-cash is usually <2x, I'm better off playing on Cake in a 2x.

PLO8 24-MAX
It'd seem like I should have sucess in the MTTs AND SNGS for the same reason I do in Cake's 24-maxs. I always feel like I'm gonna win that MF. I never get worried when I'm short... just wait for a good spot. For starters those are usually lower bi.

I nailed it in an email w/ Jerry. Short-handed play is not where I'm most +EV. After making it past final 2 tables, we're back to a full ring game in these and that's how we play it out. That does suit my style... but like... I feel comfortable when I get short-handed in those and have gotten a bunch of 2nds and shipped a couple.

If I can do that, I should be able to do the same thing on Merge in the 1 table SNGs. Maybe it's a situation where the slightly nittier play on Cake works to my advantage... Mostly I think it's about mind-set. I don't play them w/ fear, and I try to liste to my gut... and I cash consistently.

So I have to ask myself what the difference is between the FT of a 24max and short-handed play on Merge. It's all 1,500 chip 10 min levels. I guess it's that full ring play down the stretch when people are really short that pushes me over the edge from marginally profitable, sucking bubble or getting 3rd vs. having a shot @ winning.

That's good. That means that when there are multi-table PLO8 SNGs, you can get back up in 'em.

The only thing that's confusing is what I just said.... each $2 1 table SNG starts me off really deep w/ people splashing around like idiots. People are concerned about bubbling and short in the 24-mans @ the FT. Deep-stack full ring play should suit my style.

I have to recognize that and maybe play slightly more aggressive and see more flops in pos in the 1 tables. If I accumulate early, then I can just play my style the whole way. In the 24-mans I'm often able to still be kinda picky about my spots 4-handed/ITM. I'm often short or near my starting stack. What's the difference?

And should I be playing more cash-games?

I think I can branch out more on merge when I run it up a little farther. For now I should stick w/ what works.

If I feel like I want to play a SNG or MTT, go for it. Unless I want to keep min-cashing, I have to play faster and take more chances. They're so top heavy.

***And that makes me think why not just play a $2 2x on Cake? I'm a lot more likely to come out w/ a win, exactly a double-up. They're over fast. The run a lot.

It's apples and oranges. 1 is a grind 'em out situation... the other is a try for a significant cash.

I think back to stars... especially how I had more success in the evening one w/ 15min levels vs. the early one w/ 10. It turned out to be significant. Same shit here...

So there's really just the 1 $5 freezeout deep that I can take shots in. The ones w/ really good structure are 1 tax bracket up from me... then it gets really cool! I guess that' still the goal on Merge... get there. Then I feel like I can play my style and have good results... fd

In a game where it's all a big fn flip so often, playing w/ some tighter players @ the table has an upside. I can steal blinds more easily. Flat out... there are just more regular limp or single-raised pots... vs. 5-6way flops etc. That is higher variance by def.

So I have to open up and gamble w/ 'em on merge or just play structures that suit me better. Maybe I'm mostly a PLO8 player on Cake. Also I haven't messed around in the cash-games since running it up a bit.

CASH GAMES

When it comes to PO$4.. and NO... if I could get good @ that, I could make bank. JPs doing it. The regulars on Cake are fewer... maybe I should try that instead of a S8 or HORSE sesh... keep mind open to it.

HU SNGS
s Maybe thre are $2 10min level PLO8 hu sngs on merge but no NLHE for a reason. Maybe it's flat out a glitch... they added the 1 tables and HU w/ same structure.

I can't play tight HU. I have to make a bunch of decisions. It's not a deep SNG like back on FTP but it's still very much about the big pots until/if we make it to 50/100> w/ similar stacks.

It'll come down to position more. It's a lot more like a 2bl up. Maybe I should play those every time I want to play a $2 1 table.

I get excited and scared when I think about it. There are no breaks. You're ON. My results have been ok... mostly I just haven't played. If I get familiar w/ the regs and get a zillion hands on them, the high variance nature/lack of experience edge I have might be worth the learning... Then I can apply that shit to end game short-handed play.

What's so fn scary about it? Nothing. They're engaging. You can't just fold your way through. I'm focusing on these structures that favor my style chiefly... But... Fn everybody sucks @ PLO8.

In the 1 tables I only ship it if I run good, str8 up. I don't gamble w/ shit. I end up getting a lot of 3rds or ending up in hu matches w/ a very short stack, since I let chip ldr take out other guy.

So I often end up bubbling on some flip or bb (frustrating) or get a lot of 3rds for $3.60. Maybe I should be a realist about that situation and play a HU match instead. The structure's good...

I have to play a few more 1 tables to make that determination. It could just be variance. They have great structure and bad players. I ask myself "If Cake suddenly added $2 10 min level 1 tables, wouldn't you play the fuck out of them?" The answer's yes... what's the difference?

As always this come down to playing too tight and not playing fearlessly enough in the bubble esp. I can play 'em, but I've gotta want to.. and HU matches are distracting.. I can only play 1.. but then some other events I play like the .25 rbs I feel like I do best when I'm just playing out of the corner of my eye.

There it is. Try some HU matches instead of 1 tables. Play 1 tables if you really want to. Scout the regs & make a longer list of donks and good players. If you're gonna commit to playing the $3 MTTs more, I just have to realize that it's high variance.

I really should look @ JPs HHs esp end-game play. It seems like he's just playing solid... that's what motherfucks me.

Whatever I'm about to do on Merge, I have to ask myself "am I more +EV in this than a PLO8 2b, even a nitty one vs. the regs?" I mean... those things are turbo.

Interesting thought process... Maybe more HU matches. IT'S A SIGN!!!!

Seriously there are no PLO or NL $2 HU matches @ all, let alone 10 min levels. I should play some more.... maybe like 5 then revisit this. I will maybe starting tonight.

Another good day. I played a $3 PLO824 and got 4th. I could easily have gone farther. Go ahead and play those when it feels right. It might be good 14u to play on regs.

I min-cashed twice in the 25rb. No obscene MCU but I did tbank when approaching bbl short. Itjust is fn +ev. I played the deepo on merge this AM. Just like... I never cash in that motherfucker.

You either should use it to warm up and/or test out more LAG strategies... esp when you're deep. Iso the nit. 3-bet light. Think about how strong a hand you could get to fold if you made a move. You must accumulate. Always but esp in turbos.

When is it really actually +EV?

Unless you have an unusually tight table or a bunch of short stacks directly on your L, just make the +EV decisions... esp in shit like PC and 25rb where it doesn't matter. Just make the right decision...

Regarding small pockets
Maybe I'm racist against these guys when it comes to short-stack play. I dutifully shove. Sometimes they hold. Just like... 66 is flipping w/ 87. Many Lags will call w/ 87.

Think about place for smallest pocks 22-66 in EP endgame. Either just go the fuck with them and flip or muck them as default. You cannot play them for set equity. I'd rather have the AK b/c dominated hands will call me. Maybe that's oversimplifying.

Just... something to think about. Pre Rush/Bobby and Jerry talking about playing every pocket pair for set equity after OG JB system for 50bb bi rush had us folding them up front. Those things are for flopping sets or putting it in when you have fold equity.

YOU HAVE TO HAVE FN FOLD EQUITY. @ least in PLO8, just take the flip b/c if you fold down to 5 chips youll just have to flip for those and count on other players KOing.

I played some HORSE cash today, a full 6max .10/25. Most of the players were pretty good... no REAL FISH. I wonder if the fact that there's just Joe killing people and the occasional micro game is leading to micro sharks jumping in and players who play higher and are starved for mixed-games.

I can hang in most games. I wish that we could just play RSE. In fact... unless I do see a sucker, I should probably stick to S8 and Lim H when it comes to these "away games."

As soon as I realized I wasn't having a ton of fun playing HORSE, I stood up. Good call.

You have to be ready for swings in those games... esp the flop games... esp w/ jamming. Should I buy in shallower for $2? Should I just put $10 on the table? What will make me most comfortable w/ the up and down of a Lim session? W/e it is, do that.

5th of 155 in the 25rb. 5th. Great job of going w/ gut and adjusting to other short stacks. You have to hang in there for those top few spots as long as it doesn't mean passing on must-play spots. .. which you don't do anymore.

So.. I just played a $2 PLO8 2x on the side. It was the easiest thing ever. Knowing the players is key. Good thing I made that list. I'm prob winning like 2 out of 3 vs the regs but it's grueling and comes down to super short stack luck @ the end.

Vs. randoms... it's on. I noticed that Omaha2011 never played a pot. He used to run no play then adjusted to beat the regs. Good to see him playing like Devin and I and the other good players. What all does Ashman play? OPR?

Well.. I railed a ridic PLO 2xwhen I woke up this AM.
Then another one started in like... literally under 10 mins.

But the players weren't all awful. There were no afks. The tighter players were too speculative and bleedy early and some spazed out short.

Well... that one MCU guy doesn't go runner runner flush QQ vs top pair Aces, I'm just saying regular game, less zooniacs.

Are certain players gonna go
1. I splashed around/played good and lost to players who were no-playing
2. Now I'm gonna tighten up?

How long can I expect fish in these? How long until they catch up, if they do... $1s really are harder if less stressful. (right?)

There it is. $50 that was I believe down around $25 even is now $200 after my 2nd in the PLO8 24-max. I think I'll celebrate by spewing it all back asap. lol.

and here are my night sesh results. I cannot ignore how badly I am destroying the .25rbs. So... a long re-buy period @ lims that I'm comfortable w/... & long enough levels. It has the longest pre of anything I play. While that can be boring and frustrating, it's also working...

I sat out w/ 6.5k @ 25/50 yesterday after "regular" reg'ing. A half hour later I was @ like 5,900... Get this... I'm on tables and tired and despite opening the window and getting it all ready.. I forgot to take my add-on... again.

2. I got my shit together and played well, making another FT, getting 6th, easily could've shipped either time today.

I like the $ dazzlers. Try one when it feels right. 3k= a lot. 4k=more. 5-6k-ridic.

Thing is to have these same results I need to be willing to take a few flips or mway QJs weeees and work on my "now you're doubled... hold on" leak. Sitting out is fine. Its better than playing like a vag, getting into situations you handle like a vag and bleeding chips

Man they wanted the $ this am. More PLO 2xs are running. I ran really bad.
Finally I got this guy to put it in w/ just KK when I flopped the wheel & he went runner flush on me to super bubble in a $5. That really sucked.

I was tilted.

On the other hand... I kinda just ran bad. I played 1 where 2 afks cashed and I bubbled. I'm +EV. Just take a break or get back in there if it's the same fish.

Switched to PLO8 on Cake and scooped 2 $2 PLO82xs and just finished getting 2nd in a .50 PLO8 24-max.

This AM I cashed in the deepo. Those are fun. Play when you want to.

More 2xs running on merge forPLO = awesome... almost so awesome that I have to get in there tonight... like now. We'll see. I feel doomswitched over there... prob start w/ $1 or $2 to see if I'm still tilted past having any feel. Consider table color changes.

I smashed quad jacks in a 24max PLO8 today. Here... I hope this link lasts.

I was short 900 @ 75/150 in the bb. Limp pot. Some thrashed JJsingle suited hand... Flop JJ92h. I check. A lag min bets, other player over calls. I flat. Q turn. I check again. this time min bet 1 checks and player 3 min bets. I decide to min-raise him. We have similar stack sizes. I min-raise him. He click backs... had QQ. We got it in. Scoops. Bubble facials. got it in good.

Looks like they're just putting those PLO8 24maxes @ random times. This AM @ 9 IE. If that was the reg time for the $1, I'd be a happy fellow.

Ok. 1 plo $5 2x, 1 win. I really blinded off and had nothing going. There was 1 afk... I got in a tough spot @ the end where I picked up AA w/ 4bb in the sb and the pot was opened on the afks bb (on my left). I had aa4t w spades. I decided to ship it since I'd be ai dark next orbit. The timing w/ the afk didn't work out. Maybe do that avg time thing. Fortunately I smashed the nut flush vs QQxx. Q on turn for sweat. Good times.

So 1 PLO, win... play awful. Lots of LAGs. Fewer no play nits.

1 PLO8 win. Same experience... but lots of the same regs.

It didn't take long to get from 3 to 10 players. If you start it, they will come. (as long as it's not Lim HE)

I really need to work on playing these things more.... the bad line up $5 PLO8s and maybe starting $5s more often, certainly sitting if they do. No regs. Zero. I had 25-40 hands on 2 guys. Spewie. The worst player had all the chps... of course. He literally entered every pot and I never once got to steal from the afk on my left.

Fuck it. I won. The play was awful and I never hit a hand. I like it. I had to get a little lucky to win, but man... I barely fucking played.

Stop thinking about the $. It's not like you're going to make a different decision often... there was a hand where I folded unsuited Aces Mway from the sb and would've flopped top set. Still... I don't mind throwing away trashy AAs. W/ no suits it's really kinda like set mining or a bluff catcher... I should've played.

Anyhow.. better to just sit on the 1,500 than get involved w/ any marginal spots ever. Fuck over-limping any speculative hands ever. Just be a rock until you are forced not to be. It usually works. Maybe I've found one of the best structures where patience and nittiness is rewarded. I'm just playing the structure. When there are lagtards and POWs, I can not play a single pot unless I hit bb spec. I had no cards today and won.

W/out the dick tbl captain donk, we probably would've blinded out the AFK... but he wanted to play pots. Actually it was gonna suck no matter what. I had the same amount as him and 'hed' have chips left after folding through. I would be ai on my bb and have to double before he ran into the KO by default. Good man going w/ the Aces/risking bubbling.

My brain did the math... I had to play. I'm lucky I picked up AA and saved all my run good for smashing the nuts ocular. Seriously... though the post-flop play might've not been AS bad, these guys sucked. Again, remember... no regulars.

Fuck thinking about the $. If you scoop a few of these you'll be @ $200. If you get to $200 you have more than enough bi to move up to $5... think of all the options between $1-5 if I decide that playing NL 2xs is profitable... killing $1s. Easy peasy. @ least you're ahead sometimes when all-in pre short... maybe I like 'em actually.

I should try a $2.... or just play a bunch of $1s & get cozy w/ the structure.

It's amazing what a difference 5 vs 7min levels makes. FTP SNGs were 7min. It's much better for 2xs @ least playing my strategy. Wow. Fuck this shit... This is the idea. Find games you can beat handily. Poker gods I simply state, a humble servant of variance.

Just find your balls. Put $5 on the tray... or don't. Just don't play 'em unless it feels like time.

I'd quite possibly be writing a diatribe about timing and people not having let me win w/ the afk had I not made a hand finally. That said these guy were bad and I was unusually card dead. Make sure it's not just results oriented thinking... by playing more of 'em.

I also had the worst seat @ the table... clowns to the l of me etc... Never once HU w/ the afk after the clown between us KOd. Never once folded to me. That's loose.

It usually works if I exactly, in this order, open replayer go into my files and drag the hh xml into replayer window. Tonight/recently it's been showing me no love. Don't even ask about trying to use the replay website. Anyhow... I can see it and replay it... just not export.

Anyhow... it was the least interesting hand ever & I played it totally passively. What's more, it happened in a freeroll. Donkament practice... 2 "real $" tables going on Cake @ the time....might as well if I have room on screen. I want a cool ribbon & to practice playing outside my comfort zone for free... and $200.

We're @ 75/150, table 7-handed.. A loose passive player limps for 150 from +1 w/ 3275 behind. Folds to me on the button w/ QhTh, 4250 chips. The sb had1,600 and bb 1,900, both were super nitty pre and post-flop. I over-limp intending to fold to a jam by either blind... That meets my specific conditions for over-limping. Lets see a flop.
sb completes. bb checks option... of course.

4 players. flop comes JhKh8s. SB insta-ships his remaining 1900ish w Kc9c, bb and original limper fold. I call and boomswitch turn the Ah like it's nbd... river 2s, ultimate blank...

I didn't play the hand well. Nobody did anything out of line or creative.... but Royal Flush, baby!!! Pah da boahd!!!

I believe this is number 2 in hold 'em. Number 1 was in like 2008. (and prob in a real $ game... lolz... kill me, timing. poker is making fun of me. Sure, you can hit a Royal... in the 2nd freeroll you've played in 2 weeks.. ((aside from the 9am HORSE freeroll. Too fun to not play sometimes. There isn't anoter HORSE MTT I can play except a $2 in the middle of the night and a $11 past my tax bracket.)

There you have it. I did not make top 24 of 6bazillion playwers and was not able to cash. I did just get another top 3 (yes 3rd) in another 24-max "mtt" on cake, this time NL. My results in those are ridic.. micro-ridic. Really good structure 4 me and I sit down w/ notes on 3/4 of the players in my regular games. Cake = kinda small.

You can see it right there... Game selection. My SNG ROIs are almost identicle on both sites, but I'm only 12% overall on Merge.

This is b/c there are all these fun MTTs to donk around in, whereas on Cake I only play the few MTTs that actually favor my style/have good structure....

Game select well. Only play games outside your normal grind, shit like 2-7 MTTs etc if you 1. feel it 2. want to play sincerely not just sounds most fun of what I can think of.

As soon as I get back on Stars I'll be playing a shitload of PLO8 multi-table SNGs w/ 10min levels. These 24-max have been educational.

Obv I should start playing higher and this is a great structure for me. What's the difference? Why do I bubble every fn MTT? It's b/c the blinds keep meaning a higher and higher % of your stack unless you chip up which favors the lags, even the ltards.

I just played an O hi pot in HAR custom .10/.20 HU. Vil bought in for $200.

He opened w/Ac2c7c7s. I flatted w/ Qs6h5hTd. I see flops in LimO.

I check-called on spidey sense and turn: 9h!!!

I checked to raise but then thought about it... if I flatted here I could potentially get A LOT of bets on the river. I felt like he needed to catch-up. He bet and I called.
*I would've jammed on any other site. On Merge there is NO CAP IN HU LIM POTS EVER, any st, any format. If you're heads-up, you can get it all in the middle.

He bet into me and we proceeded to put 13-BET HIM before he finally called me w/ 7s full. Playing the nuts is easy. Getting value often is not.

4-cards is a lot. I do not like my turn flat the vast majority of the time. It felt right.... I really thought about the Merge no cap thing. I was like "I'm about to get excited and slow-play on default," got all ready to jam the pot and then remembered the possibility of literally stacking him on the river if he had the nut flush or whatever.

So I won a $6 pot playing .10/.20. Lolz. I did get almost my entire stack in. There are a lot of better combos than 77 out there, so 13-raises is pretty nutty for 7s full x 6s.

Short Stack PLO8 EG/Merge H.O.R.S.E. scene

For starts, lets talk Merge horse .10/25.
1. spend some time thinking about how the .25 rather than .20 changes which games. IE it's easier to deny drawing odds and/or win a huge pot w/ getting more big-bets in... maybe trapping on 4th more.

2. There are the bad players and everybody else. Everybody else = tight players, LAGs who don't suck and the few actually good players. ... they stick out. When it's a short-handed game esp, 1 good player max, ideally none. If 1 you need a complete live 1 or 2 there to stay.

When it's a ring game bounce as soon as it's not very good. Too high variance/not your main focus. It's fun to play w/ the donks but high variance vs. the jammers and good players. Dabble in HORSE. Only play when
-the game is good
- you really want to play*

3. If bored scout regulars.

Now about Endgame short stack PLO8 post-flop play
I've run into a couple spot recently where I was short on the bubble or late or ITM and had flopped avg. then was trapped into betting way too much of my stack.

It's either gone ck ck flop then I bet turn and get trapped or
I get checked to as og or am 12a/oop as og and make a bet w/ a marginal hand only to get mounted.

Try to stick to your guns post-flop. Only semi-bluff if you are ready to go all the way. Only bluff vs. nits. Consider the big stacks' prospective. They really want you to bust. They know they can get you all-in even if they check a couple streets.

Pick your spots. Don't do impulsive shit. If MCU = the agenda, stick to it. If you have enough to stick w/ the Deppen don't val bet low no hi, hi no low even nut... than stick the fuck with it!!!

There is no reason to get crazy until ur really short or the only short stack... Just play good.

Only bluff the players who you have unusual amounts of fold eq vs after the flop, even if you opened the pot and whiffed.

IE in the 24-max today I opened a good hand, totally whiffed on KQT or something. I cbet shoved 450 into like 2500 and he folded. There I had no choice... but also fuck me, he folded.

Think about bluffing OV O8 players only on those boards. Don't bet thin into the PLO players.
PLO leak more expensive esp pre-flop... O8 = set them up for the 3/4+

Again, only semi-bluff short if you're ready to go w/ the hand. Don't play for 1/2 aggressively esp oop.

Position is everything in those spots but be wary of check-raises when ur really short.

It's totally fine to fold hands that flop well but you can't aford to play... Thrashed suited ace A7 type hands... 24Kq 2bl std etc. Just fold the shit or jam if bb tight/right spot.

Cincyd or whtaever is the worst ever. Play everything he/she/it's in b/c he'll push the issue and go for KOs in ridic spots, open literally every pot on the bubble w/ 7k... never slow-down. That puts pressure on all the active players and short stacks...

Also just trust your gut on big folds in general... especially in games like that or events w/ very long levels where u can pick your spots. I'm making enough moves to balance the nittery out. Go w/ what works.

I honestly felt like I knew I was gonna win or lose almost all my all-ins last night, and that was a ,lot of hands. It's not just being negative. I feel the binks coming often too.

Um... It was a pretty tough line-up. I didn't make that many moves. I wasn't flopping in NL... going w/ my cut in 2 spots saved me $. One where Joe flopped the world w/ pocket 9s in Lim H TJxJ9... I had K9 of h, held on made a pair correctly made him for not-a J... but he tried to check-raise me on the end. Did I give something away or is that just a lock-down board where he figures inducing a bluff is the only move.

There's starting to be some leveling re late st betting in Lim... he knows I actually do bluff... How to adjust? Well first off check-behind rivers in marginal spots where he either has "it" or not much. Then he'll think he's got me playing defense and I can start pounding pots again.

Notice JBs eyes closed turtle up. That's a good1. Most of the info I give away is related to looking back @ the person I've put the the decisions... if I can't react when they grab chips to see what I do... There's an upside and a downside. The downside is I can't throw reverse tells... well I can do that w/ my eyes closed... just put him on a hand.

There was a pot vs. Arkady where I really fucked up. PLO8 I opened w/ AA46 I think w/ a suit. Flopped 9A9 and he bet right into me. I smoothed. The turn made him broadway and he bet again. My 1st instinct was to min-raise. He said if I had he would've pushed and I would've stacked him. I don't think he can put me on Aces and only Aces. A flush hit on the end. There were a lot of river action killers. How often can somebody fold to a min-raise in big pots if they think they're drawing live.

I like my flop call. Just go w/ your gut, man. You know your leak is getting a poker boner and checking or slow-playing. Get some value.

Later there was a hand where I should've bet a boat vs Joe in Big O and kinda vagd around it. Take longer on all big decisions.

-Remember that you can use blocking bets in Omaha 8 even <1/2 pot. As long as you make similar bets w/ monsters... it'll induce bluff raises.

Lol. I cashed in my 2nd straight 2-7 MTT last night on merge. Lol.

On one hand: I am just an avg player learning the fine points
On the other hand: These people play this game horrendously for the most part.

I mean... I did read the Negreanu chapter in SS2. Maybe I'm getting a feel for it.

I was crippled on the bubble and lucky to make the final table. Only top 10 paid. I got... 7th I think.

One move I was proud of:
So my 1st table was zoology. I was in a 4-way 2-bet pot and smashed 24567 on the 1st draw from EP or the BB. It's not a trapping game. As soon as I pat, the cat's out of the bag...But!

A lot of the time people reluctantly pat 9s-Js in that spot.... or a thrashed 87. I decided to rep one and checked to call, assuming somebody would bet (they were/he did). Everybody called and I decided to just flat myself after a long pause... exactly repping one of those hands.

I proceeded to get a big mway pot where nobody could fold going holding the near nuts. I certainly won more bets than if I'd raised there and just got 4 more sm bets. 2 players called me down on the end, and I scooped a nice one.

I'd need it b/c, even though I was playing defense I got coolered on the bubble. I still had the balls to open A2457 UDG. The bb folded and I showed, so the other short stack @ the tbl, MCU hard, was aware that I wasn't gonna just sit on it. (which was kinda my intention short of pat hands or monster 1-card draws. we were kinda deep... 10 min levels) I managed to hit a hand, double up and... ok yea... I just made the FT. I got 6th.

Lol. Am I good @ this game in slow structure MTTs? Do people play bad enough to give me edge @ these stakes?... or is it just a game of binkage? I feel a lot more bingoish playing Badugi. I dunno... we'll see. It's a popular game w/ few or no books on it. I should get good. It's super high variance if played hyper jammy in cash-games. I can play different in MTTs. Lots of open limps, mostly not on my part but some from EP.

I may have cashed in 100% of the 2-7 MTTs I played, certainly 100% this year. I think. I think. Worst case 2 for 3. Lol. Binkage ftw. I did play that 1 hand well and a couple key pots is what does it.

PLO8 2X Check in/30mans/ game selection

So Cake has been mean to me lately equally in NL and PLO8. I've taken some bbs but still winnning enough to not really spew.

Speaking of which I had another good performance in the 30mans. I got 3rd, 5 paid. Good structure. Same w/ this $1 PLO8 24-max I'm about to play. I played the $3 this AM got violated and also was kinda playing scared.

PLO double ups running steady... results good. $2s running today/won. Lots of nits. It really comes down to 1 big pot so often whether that's a steal, a move or something involving pot equity/show-down value... it's 1 move.

PLO8 2xs are running like a mf. Thing is it's almost all regs now. It's a bunch of tight players that aren't complete idiots and know my game. If that's mostly what I'm playing on there I wonder if changing my sn isn't worth it. It makes my stats impossible to track by players other than me... Cake has that so we can use it.

That said... how much equity would I get out of a new table image @ those things? NL nobody's paying that much attention. PLO8 2xs... These guys are just gonna play how they do. Unless I do some very effective minimally risky false advertising... anyhow, I'm didugethalf for now.

Remember that most players don't even assign colors to regs, let alone take notes... does it really matter that much?

I would still like to figure out...
1. For both games 2xs how many lagtards do you need @ the table to no-play and wait for real premium spots?
2. How many nitty players does it take to make the PLO8s -EV or break even? (and which nits adjust to tight tables?)
3. How tight to play up front. I like the PLOs b/c you can get folds and it's easy to let marginal hands go. PLO8 I see a hand like A6s, JJ and want to play... but what am I trying to hit w/ that to scoop out... let alone w/ low implied odds/flat pay/no 1st to be playing for. Winnign 500 chips is usually enough...
*I wonder if I'm over-playing suited ace wheel hands a bit. I need to make sure to ask myself the Deppen 2 about every single hand... gut moves aside. I should try to come up w/ some criteria for playable hands by pos when I'm not short-stacked... and for various stack sizes... if I'm playing these enough.

Fact is that I'm +EV in both games @ these lims.

The $5 PLO8s might be playing faster and dumber. Try to work up the confidence to play some of those. Also maybe ease off cake while they have the doomswitch on.

It might not be a good idea to play "regular" PLO8 @ the same time as 2x.

PLO8 2x: Think like u did that day @ Lucky's 2/5 PLO. Remember the power of position. Traditional implied odds aren't there except 1st 2 levels maybe so it's really important to pick great spots. In PLO8 that must mean becoming tighter and tighter up front...

Regular criteria for playing in EP Hwang/Deppen
1. Wheel wrap w/ SA
2. AA sa wheel
3. 3to Bdwy w/ Axs x=wheel
4. AA2

That does NOT include every A23. 123 is powerful esp in mway limpy games. Hands like A24 and A25 go down in value even more in flat pays.

So... if that's what I'm supposed to play in a 6-max cash-game, then I need to tighten up even more

So... 10 handed... that's some key info. That's a lot of players. I guess let's give this a shot...

UDG-UDG+2 playable hands while in levels up to and sometimes including 25/50
1. AA2-raise... you have to slim the field some. If you're gonna play it up front, make a 3x raise or pot it and make sure you pay close attention to who the bb is. Limit your variance. Sure it's AA2, but if you don't hit the right flop it's xxx in a 6way pot
2. Wheel wraps w/ a suited ace. Notice that says WHEEL WRAPS! A678 is not a wheel wrap.
-Remeber that A23 plays really way mway. No sa, muck the shit.
3. AA sa bdwy or better yet AA sa wheel wheel.
4. 3 to bdwy w/ SA wheel hands might want to bump to MLP. You need some specific shit to happen for those to work. Remember just how much stronger A2 is than A3. You need exactly a 2x flop to even think about moving on.

Re taking stabs @ pots: Remember... unless you are pretty sure you'll get a fold, you cannot bet a made nut low, let alone the draw, unless you have something going high... don't bet non-nut high hands w/out something going low
-IE hand where I was in BB w/ a mdl rundown and flopped the 2nd nut str8 on 678. I got check raised by T9 and my 59 was raped. If I'd had a better low draw, it's worth playing...

Re blind stealing: Start to really take notice of who won't let you run them over again and again from LP or short-handed/EG. (IE Devin Hes) vs. players who's num 1 2 and 3 prioritiy is to do their best to no-play to the win. When you ID those players, start to open strong hands... but still stick to STRONG HANDS unless you're short.

When Dan talks about how you can play more hands for a raise in LP in PLO8 than O8, remember he's talking more about cash-games & then 6-max. In these things it's all about who's the bb and how they'll react/how often they defend let alone 3-bet. I do not have implied odds. I am looking to push real premium hands early, good mway hands late and only w/ fold eq or really short... and basically bink out in some big pots.

So only pos raise marginal hands @ nits... if you're going to be playing w/ these players all the time...

1. Who will fold their bb to a 2x PFR on the bubble? Wail away on them w/ any good mway hand... but realize you'll ALWAYS be flipping if called. Keep their stack/eff. stacks in mind.

2. Who will fold to a 2.5 or 3x or FP

Most of the time just full-pot jam. You are playing for fold equity/steal equity 1st and pot equity/show-down value a distant 2nd unless you have a mf of a hand.

3. Who you have unusual amounts of fold eq vs in end game... and early.

Re-read your PLO8 2x strategy notes and maybe include some rough open by pos hands.

REALIZE THE IMPORTANCE OF ACCUMULATING AS EASY AS 50/100. THESE LEVELS ARE SHORT, YOU HAVE 1500 AND IT GOES 75/150, 100/200 fast enough. It's when the blinds get to 200/400 etc and you have to start doing math on whether you can fold through etc.... that's when there's almost zero skill to these things. Sure... you'll have to flip. It's Omaha. That said... see what you can do about 1. staying out of the way not splashing around @ all or trying post-flop airball bluffs 2. ACCUMULATING.

That said... your ultimate goal is to push post-flop edges... then end up stuck in that situation. Then remember to go w/ strong mway hands not ... I dunno.... A579. I'm already folding the high hands which is of course key...

Going farther w/ that... Playing high-only hands in PLO8 is like playing small suited cons in NL. It's all about the implied odds. In these things you don't have that. You're not looking to win or get top 3.

1. Even if some of the players are playing the structure well, that doens't mean gamble it up. Tight pre-flop play is @ the heart of your strategy. Winning all the chips in the 1st few levels would be nice... but is that how you've been shipping these?

If I'm gonna play tight, do it well. Don't let one mistake wipe away the value of all that patience.

Either way... get better and better @ playing the structure of all your reg grinds.

If I'm starting w/ 1,500 chips, I need to play some pots and chip up in most situations... if it's gonna come down to that 1-2 spot(s), then pick them carefully. Don't over-level w/ idiots.

So I shipped the last 2 $1 10minlvl cake NL sgs I played. I forget how well my style works for those... especially my newer style w/ the bluffing and all that there.

It's starting to feel like most MTTs are "taking a shot" as far as game selection goes since I'm clearly more +EV in SNGs.

That said I'm totally over trying to beat the PLO8 $2s on Carbon. I'm gonna have to want to play to get up in 1. I just always get 3rd or fn bad beat. Lately I made a big mistake/bad call w. top 2 and a thrased low (and missed nut fl draw) on a board where I'm often getting scooped. No more of that "do I have this low or that low." Takes as long as it takes to work through your brain fart, even if you have to use your whole tbank and point @ the cards on teh screen like an idiot.

Most of the MTTs I'm consistently cashing in are deep or more likely re-buys. Starting w/ that double stack is a real advantage. Play more $ dazzlers if you decide 7mins is enough. Ask Cake to start $1 NL RBs w/ same structure.

But yea... MTTs... don't do it unless it's a $1 IE the turbo deep stack on merge unless you REALLY WANNA PLAY and/or it looks unusually +EV... overlays etc. IE that H.O MTT can suck a fat dick up. Unless you win all the chips it turns into a flipament and it's super high var. and splashy.

If you play, play for fun and play to win. Otherwise, fuck it. Play a cash-game. This isn't pre 4/15 when there were all these +EV events w/ big fields. It's all like the random cash mtts on FTP... small fields. Top heavy. You might do better if the field was larger... you'd certainly be able to win a shitload more $ for shipping one of 'em.

Then again I wonder how many 2100 buy-ins I've lost since I top 4d that. I'm sure I'm in the+. It's one I should always feel like I can play... still want to. Don't play w/ a bad feeling about it.

When you're really deep consider big typed over-bets between 1.5-4x pot when super deep rather than shipping 120bbs or w/e. IE lvl 1 of w/e deep.

What are people doing to steal right now? Do that w/ monsters. IE ovbet weird PFR in EP.

I took 2nd in a 20whaetver player WSOPC today. I was very happy w/ my play. The top 4 = itm, all good players. Ya know... those are tough events. The same players are ITM over and over. Meh.

So I hit a club royal in O8. I defended my BB w/ AKcxx, flop QcJc low card. I think it went check, check, and I binked my 10c on the turn. Check bet call. Then, praise poker gods, the board paired on the end. The river was capped into me after I 3-bet w/ the stone nuts, no low on board.

I don't know if I've hit a royal b4. I'm sure I have. Anyhow, getting value w/ that many of the key cards in my hand is a chore. I played it well. If I bet flop bet turn, he's gonna put me on the flush draw or a higher set maybe. I dunno.

Anyhow I was down 3-1 in chips when we started HU. The game ended in NLHE w/ me open shoving AK of shapes w/ 1.2 bb or so, getting snap-called by AJo and him smashing a 46J rainbow flop. Oh well. I felt it coming. I was in too good shape.

Anyhow... I win that pot and double through I'd have been chip ldr by a little. 3 handed play was very advanced.

Of course I don't remember the exact action and I installed the new fucked version of PS .net today. No replay. No HH. WTF? Why did I have that shit so long? Other US players say they haven't since 4/15.

Meh. Still a cool league w/ no trolling and good regulars.

Fri after TG. Morning shift

Got 2nd overall in Cake RB, cementing myself as a fucking baller in that event. It'll be great to move up to the $2.50s w/ same structure.

I played a PLO8 $5 2bl up and won. WTF not? It felt right.

Small-ball bets w/ big hands worked out well today... Ya know I never used my 1-time. I might actually have had the best of it every hand? Worth looking back. I know I faded some serious outs.

Just... play the structure. All 4 of the top 4 were TAGs, so I made sure not to make any wussie folds. I was lucky enough to double through... then it was hte chip ldr 300k, me 150k, and 2 guys w/ under 4bb.

It'd have been nice to try to ship it.

I have to think that getting good results in the $Dazzlers on Carbon is only a matter of detatching from the $ and not worrying about spewing 5buy-ins or w/e. It's +EV. 4k stacks. I think it's 7 min levels, which is not optimal... but still low.

I think I should play a lot of 'em. Just like... people rebuy a lot. It affects what a min-cash is etc. Esp just playing normal LAG in pre addon, I like focusing on them. It makes me more excited to get to where I can start playing PLO8 rbs w/ decent structure.

Consider the PLO8s as a way to move up. You're not gonna win every time b/c of the short-stack thing, but that's fine. As far as Cake goes, that's a good thing to play. And it helps keep 'em running.

Thought in mini-ball bet-sizing. Consider the amount you're about to type whether it looks weak and whether adding an amount to that that doesn't really matter to your stack size. You might as well bet exactly 1/3p.

Re over-betting w/ monsters on turns. Is it worth it for all the times that u run into a hand? It' a good move semi-bluffing, but consider just potting it. You pot it rarely. Both stick out as big bets. Exception u can really put him on a hand and MUST deny odds.

I shamefully smashed my way over the shameful 200k mark on PKR, peak >220,000. I cashed out of a $1k PLO table w/ over $18k. Most of it came from a hand where I rivered quad 5s vs. a couple button pushers, AA, and 2 other full houses. I was already 400bb deep or so. Though I mostly played $100/200 Lim HU or 3-handed, that was pretty insane. 20k. 20 buy-ins. 1,800 big blinds.

I'VE STARTED STARING @ PEOPLE. IT MAKES IT TWICE AS FUN AND HAS THE POTENTIAL TO REALLY TILT PEOPLE. JUST DON'T SLOWROLL RIVERS W/ MONSTERS. ALL ELSE FAIR

It's safe to say I'm the best Lim HE HU player on the site's play chip section. That's shameful but better than being a sucky one. I'll start playing 1k/2k soon. I'm already playing $50/100 NL HU... so far so good.

WSOPC got 2nd in NLO8 shootout. Everybody who won their 1st table was itm. I started 3hndd play w/ 1.7k to 7k to 5k and got to even stacks +- heads-up. The chipldr spewed it all out. I wonder if that's what finally happens @ the end of every NLO8/PLO8 event? Fn donks.

It's Sun am and I noticed a $3 PLO2x about to jump off on carbon and played. Already min+cashed the deep turbo NL and 1 for 2 in PLO82xs on Cake.

Anyhow... it was zero regulars. Nobody. Just like my experience w/ 'moving up' to $2, the randoms that come in are a lot more agro and donk around a lot more. I literally never played a hand and won. There were a couple tight players and some who were clearly not interested in doing anything remotely close to play good.

Feel ok about opening those, esp on a day like today.

And I played @ Stephens .10/20 PLO/PLO8 game which ended up having NL too. There were a couple hands towards the end, PLO, where I feel like I really should've considered all my options after hitting my card on the riv oop.

1st hand was vs. 'Adam,' the tall guy from the w. oak game... very lag/fuck it. We were in a raised pot where I had KT99 w a suit. The flop came down KTx rainbow. I check called. The turn was a blank. He could have a lot of draws, so I ck called again. On the river the board paired 10s/I got there.

On the river, I have to start giving him credit for a made hand... but regardless, there are a lot of draws out there. He thinks of me as super tight. What % of his range is he checking behind if I check to him a 3rd time on the riv playing what looked like a draw.

He had KJQ x a dangler and turned a straight. I know b/c he snap called my river full pot donk bet. Does he check behind? Is he a sophisticated enough Omaha player to know that a straight is not the nuts... mostly, DOES HE THINK I'D CHECK FOLD A LOT THERE. I would.

I definitely should've check-raised... Then again, he could easily have had a better set. It's not like 3rd bottom full house was the nuts. I thought I was good, potted it, he snap called.

The other was vs. Margy, and I feel ok about this 1... kinda. I def should've had my mind more or her holdings... not just hoping I'd hit.

It was a raised pot and I had smooth called from the c/o w/ AA93 or something like that w/ nut clubs. I check called the flop... I forget the action, but what matters (remember would be ideal) is that I hit the nuts on the river, clubs got there. It was checked to me and again, I insta-potted it. Margy would bet her Jhigh flush for sure. There were a lot more draws out there and...

I should've fn looked left. Then again, this one was a more clear case of gotta lead out. My hand's face-up, but she is never folding any flush there really... maybe a tiny one.

I guess it comes down to the opponent/vil. W/ Adam, I should've checked. I didn't have the nuts. He'd almost certainly have bet, and I could've @ least got a min-raise paid off. I was oop in both hands. Vs. a player like Margy, prob bet. Vs. Adam, go for the max value. The pot was basically he and I hu past the flop, so I can reasonably think that pairing the board gave me the best hand. I mean... there's air and over-pairs in his range there.

Regardless... On big decisions I need to think about both options w/ monsters. It's not NL. There it's easier to get a river ck raise in vs. the person w/ the lead. There are too many action killers in PLO. Margy having a lower flush draw made sense, but she could've had a lot of stuff. Also I didn't want to show that I hadn't 3-bet w/ double suited Aces.

If I call my way through that hand and hit the uncrackables, I gotta bet for value.

Remember that hand vs. Adam. Pick off some 3-barrels when you suck-out and/or consider turn and river check-raises more often.

Those 2 pots were basically my session. I was @ the limpy friendly table where we played almost all PLO8... then we consolidated. Other table crazy. It'd have been interesting to be over there. I wasn't scared to have a volatile session, but I certainly would've been calling too often... looked passive. The limpy table works when I hit hands. I won like $40 net/200bb

I final tabled both events I made deep runs in on Fri last night. I was happy w/ my play. There were a few times where I really wanted to fold something like AQ or JJ in EP to limit my variance in end game, but I just did what I was supposed to.

It's really key to figure out which feeling is me wussing out vs. actually making a good "feel fold." Esp. if the pot is mway (hold em anyhow) the feel fold will always be a.. fuck.. what is it? A self-fulfilling prophecy. The thing I know how to say every other day of my life. I will miss the flop 2/3 of the time and run that JJ into overs on the board and players holding those overs.

I still need to start 3-betting more in hold 'em. That aside, I'm cozy w/ this trajectory.

I ran pretty well. My hands held and I won a couple flips. I almost always got in good. I played well but still used my feel to get away from a couple "standard shoves" esp in EP when I was short. I hung in there... then I had all the chips in the 2100.

Listen to your fn gut about game selection. UR obv much better @ deep and rb nl MTTs where 3k chips>=starting stack. Play those. W/ the hud... how often could I play

Random PLO8 thought having failed to follow through after checking flop betting turn on
QQJ, 2d. I had 2456 w/ baby diamonds. Two looser players called my small turn bet, both bad loose players. They checked to me on the river & I vagd out and checked behind. I asked in chat, and the guy I was worried about who won the pot w/ AATx or something no ds... he "thought I had a Q." If I'd bet the river, I'd have won.

What is the best bet size there? Is it hp? Is it 2/3p? Really small bet? Bomb it?

If you're gonna play that hand, then you have to follow through in position. Frankly I didn't think about the fact that I was in pos enough throughout the hand. Either way, barrel required. Occasionally I'll get check-called by a thrashed Qxxx. Most of the time, checked to on the riv after ck flop bet turn... you have to bet.

11.11.11 I found out Cake and PT3 worked it out to play nice. I got my hud to work and started playing yesterday. It only gives you data from the current session, so I can't get 2000 hands on the fihs.... they also can't get that on me and know I play tight... when I play tight.

This is really significant of course. Ideas come to mind like multi-tabling(a lot of tables) their 10-min level $1 NL SGs. Hopefully I'll do better in the cash-games. Maybe I should play Lim H a little higher.

I got 3rd in the 2100 and 12th in the .25 rb @ the same time. I made a few big laydowns but willed myself to shove when I really had to. Well done.

Needless to say that was a boost to my cake-roll.

Of note bombing for 2x the pot w/ J3 from sb "1st to steal' board was J33,2d. T9 of d hero called me. 2x the pot. A lotta chips. I won a lot of flips of course.

PLO2xs and Cake... and PLO8 2xs

If there are PLO2xs running, you should play. Bring it up in chat again when there are a couple regulars there.

I played 4 today, 3$1s and a $2. I won all 4.

Don't feel obligate to play on cake. I've been running kinda meh on there, and the lack of hud only allows for certain game selection. The PLO8 2xs seem to be running less. I feel like I should only play them @ $2 w/ a not-all regulars or maybe a $5... try one, take a shot... they're running the most.. who's playing?

Just b/c you are better @ PLO 2xs and find them lower variance doesn't mean that you haven't done really well in the PLO82xs. You have.... even all regulars... You just have to play more aggressively. You have to play more aggressively than you would in a typical PLO8 sg, even if that's the total opposite of what works in PLO. Limp rarely. Never raise oop... but you must come in for a raise big enough that the bb will fold to. I like trying 2.5x and then right on the bubble maybe smaller or pot it.

Like I was saying to Joe, it's all about playing the structure. Develop a tight table image, see who else is playing tight and then just mix it up some. You will get 1/2 the pot a lot if you don't play bad. More selective pre-flop and more aggressive in EMP. In LP it totally depends on who the BB is. You can limp to call, limp to jam... mostly open or fold though.

Freerolls... hu4rollz play chip. I often think I play the best I ever do, b/c there is no $ on the line. I can nit up for a .04 big bet in micro lim and do dumb shit.

When I'm playing biggest I do, if I'm focused and/or come out winning, I play my best. If I get caught up in their and/or my own mind games, I suck. I do dumb shit. I get frustrated. I'm afraid to lose.

Solution:

1. Play stakes I'm comfortable w/ aside from when I really feel like IT'S TIME
2. Most importantly just start to think in BB. Just don't get emotional or make emotional decisions. Trust your gut.

Be ready to lose. Come into every sesh expecting either.

Defo losing in the PO2xs tilts me. Lets just acknowledge that's never happpening much. I have a better idea of how to play a mini stack when 1> other players are mega short. It kinda becomes a math problem like back in super turbos... do I have enough to fold through and how bad a spot will that put player x in?

The worse the other shorties are, the tighter I can play. If they don't care about bubbling, dif story.
The few times you have tight let alone good players on the s. stack, you just have to push a lot of hands... esp on their bb.

Go w/ your gut. Seeing flops w/ marginal hands will be limited to MLP and only over-limping frequently @ 30/60<, the 1st 2 levels. Limping for 50 starts to add-up out of a 1500 chip stack. That was a good adjustment. It seems tight is right... but then the structure makes you push your good hands, so push 'em... esp w/ any chance of fold eq.

Anyhow... here's me going from 83 chips to winning a PLO double or nothing this AM. I was on nympho banana tilt from getting rolled-up 6s into rolled-up 7s in a HORSE cash game.

Where to begin...
Well Vince was dealing. The seating starting on his left was JB, JP, Me, Kip(!), Elvin (!), Jerry, Brian

I don't know if you met Brian... he came to another HORSE night or maybe both. Naw you haven't. Anyhow he's a lagbox. He got drunk, spewed all his chips on hopeless bluffs that I will now detail, then stormed out of the room and slammed the door w/out saying goodbye after he got felted by JB.
Then he had to come back @ 11 b/c he left his 'water bottle,' which his gf brought him from Thailand or something. He was cool when he came back but should've apologized and didn't.
I'm ok w/ him still playing. He's good for the game and plays really bad when he's losing... above avg when winning... really high bluffing frequence. He wasn't ever abusive to anyone... just his stack.

That and my stack was the story of the night really. Details...

He did it too... A drunk Brian completed a J bring-in in Razz later in the night b/c there were 3 other high door cards, pre spew, just having arrived @ piss drunk. It actually folded to me w/ T3,3, and I called w/ just Kip's xxK behind me. The boards ran out kinda scary, so scary that I had to switch to defense.... esp considering I was bluffing. He obv either had 2 good low cards in the hole and caught up or was totally bluffing. I was looking @ a Q9 low, called him down, rivered a thrased T7and snap called him. He was stone bluffing. He took off w/ 2 paints. It was a good call. It was an intense hand. His board was like J496 and I obv had a 9 @ best... the jig was up, but fortunately I was bluffing w/ the best hand. well... I guess 2 3s is behind AKJ on 3rd. Fuck that dude. That's my pot. I had a bluff catcher and the heart to call a complete w/ 2 3s in my starting hand to outplay the mf.

We played 1 orbit of PLO all night. Brian started out winning, bled a bit in Lim games... then gave his whole stack to JB on this PLO hand where he opened some thrashed hand pre-flop udg, and called JB's full pot 3-bet oop. JB had an avg single suited AAxx. The flop came down rainbow low cards. Brian checks, John pots it and Brian insta nearly yells "repot" before John can get the chips out. John calls. The board pairs 6s on the turn. Brian leads out for the rest of his stack. John makes a great call w/ Aces and 6s. Brian had 2-pair and no other re-draws, just spazzed out, hit the felt and stormed out of the room.
(It is a good call, but this kid was on magna carta bujango berzerker tilt @ the time. JB also had 2 blockers to any of the potential straights. He put Brian on 2 pair and pushed through w/ basically just an over-pair on a low connected board... So he had to figure out that Brian called his pre-flop 3-bet w/ a low run-down or w/e.)

There were more pots he played bad or that tilted him, but I don't want to write that long an essay.

I was up like $50... good sesh. Then we played NL for the last hour of the night. Brian was gone. Vince played w/ his tips for a while then bought in for $100 and played w/ us for the last half hour.

JB opens udg w/JJ, JP folds, I flat w/ QQ...
*Flatting QQ w/ 200bb> is totally normal, but I also take atypical lines vs. John esp in pos and deep b/c there's so much history and he will try to run me over every time almost... then knows I'm capable of bluffing rivers, b/c when people shut down vs. me when I have fold equity in big pots....it's usually them conceding that they give up b/c I always have it... So I bet whether I have it or not a high % of the time... prob I do have it often...point is he'll pay me off on big river bets. So the spidey sense was tingling from jump, and I wanted to win a huge pot. We played a lot of online hu sgs then exchanged hand histories. Turns out neither of us ever had it etc.

... Kip also calls on the button, which I guess I don't mind. The flop comes JQ8, 2D. Set over set. We were both really deep. He covered me. So JB leads out for $5. I can tell Kip isn't interested and decide to continue my trap. I flat, Kip folds. Turn is a suckass Ts. JB checks. I go to bet $15.50. He asks me how much I have behind. I push my chips fwd. He baller check-raises me to $50. (which would be so strong if I had like KQ, 99, TT or w/e he put me on) I say "really? you have AK?" tank about 2 mins and ship it. He opened, he can have AK. I wouldn't flat AK pre in pos there... I don't have it often @ all in this spot. He tanks a while, says "I hope you didn't slow-play Queens," and of course called drawing to 1 out which I somehow faded. Sick shit. Huge pot.
The whole thing was just a cooler, but that's how it happened. It was my turn.

JB and I collided a lot...also played a sick Stud-8 pot where I ended up w/ 23456, 3,5... a 6 high straight and 2 pair. I started w/ 535... my board was scary but JB had 3 Aces, open aces on his board. He almost folded the river to his credit.

Back to NL: A few hands later Vince limped into a pot where I had Q6 of d in the BB and checked. I flopped dry Kdxx and turned th.e 2nd nut flush. The river was hte Ah, best card ever, giving me the nuts. Naturally some $ went in the pot, considering he had the 2nd nuts JhTd. He folded on the end like a baller even after hitting his hand. Strong. I have an ok table image in front of him... Thing is I don't go nuts there w/ Tdx w/ a huge win in front of me and like 10mins left in the session. I can't think of that many people that would. That was a decent pot.

So I just got smacked up in the last hour of the session during NL and won all the $.

We used Jerry's chips and I had 2 stacks of black ($5s) w/ a bunch of $1s, $2s and a couple $20s.> 600bb+. My stack was fun to look @ and stuff.

Let's see...

Limit dealer's we played a lot of Stud-8, O8, 2-7, razz and crazy pineapple.

NL and PL, we played a lot of PLO8 and NLO8, a good bit of Mississippi. Nobody called NL until the end of the night, so then it was fun to just keep going for an hour or w/e. We played NL2-7SD twice. I never got anything going, but the action was SICK.
*I'm gonna just have a big fn PLO8 game as soon as I confirm that all the right players are in town, maybe as soon as next Tues.
Love it: me, Jerry, Arkady, Max, Rick, JB, JP...a a lot of the regs like it... Richard, Elvin... or maybe HORSE PLO8.

Anyhow... JB took it in the eye hard, getting bad beat out of Brian's and his own buy-in. JP won. I blitzkrieged. Kip bled out his whole stack all night. Elvin prob lost like $30, not much doing.. lots of calling of course. Jerry was stuck and won a little I think. Brian left all the $ on the table. Vince saved about $60 w/ that river fold and was up before that hand. Of note... he limped a bunch and was playing all friendly friendly w/ us, even though I know he plays big games. Kinda professional and very cool of him as dude who was there to be the dealer. He really likes dealing Tues b/c of all the different games... He just plays Hold 'Em and PLO seriously.

It was too tight w/ 7 and a dealer, but I had to take JP for all 4 of us and 7 players. It's a little close. For now we're good for 7-players. 8 works but it's close... not kill me close, just close. W/e. I'm just psyched the games are running and something like an all dealer's choice game came off, and everybody had lot of fun but Brian. It'll be interesting to see how he plays it from here. He's prideful and also thinks we're all a bunch of nits, but he really did go nuts in a few spots... He wasn't abusive or THAT drunk... He just blew up and bounced. I think he said "I don't care" during big pots like 3 times toward the end.

Hi Cas,

The tournament guys loved your suggestions.

They will add some non-Turbo PLO8 Double Ups right now. They will need to test NL PLO8 first before we go live with them, as we have never run on that limit before. It should work though. We may even add in a couple of small stakes NL PLO8 cash tables in there if all goes OK on testing. For the SnGs we will need to test also but we will hopefully add these aswell.

As for the MTT’s - this will require some work and calculations but hopefully we can accommodate the suggestions made also.

I got 4th in the 2100. Nice score for my roll.

Interesting part: I played the 1st few levels not knowing Brad was gonna show up @ 7 for his lesson. Luckily it's Brad. I just played super tight, out of the corner of my eye.... When he split @ 8 it was right on the bubble. I flopped a set and ran ok, but that's something to remember.

I can stay in nit gear forever, but if I have an awkward time w/ those stages/stack sizes... Just go w/ gut and play tight if it's gonna work/if you have enough chips.

Bad news: 1. They're turbo. 2. Though the players really suck, the short stacks back into 1/2 the pot too often. W/e... bubble win win. No-play will not work w/out run-good. I just hope they keep running.
re 2. PLO 2xs have better structure and are easier to beat simply b/c nobody's splitting a pot h/l during end game when it's the short stacks game.

Either way.... psyched. It'll be more important to accumulate in these PLO8 things for those 2 reasons. I kinda whiffed every flop in the 1st 1 and tried no play. The next 2 were easy wins.

Playing tight and then making a few obv pos raises or bob etc is all.

Play prems.

Limit variance. Fold big hands. Whatever. Nut pedaling is usually enough.

Most of the time playing str8 fwd or noplay rely on smashing flops etc is good enough.

If the raise won't get you hu, why jam AA, even a good 1s AAxx into a mway pot early (or even late if you think you'd get called in 2>spots IE MCU short no fold equity?

Since the objective is to end up w/ 1> chips 5-hndd, everything about the game changes

Semi-bluffing is riskier (let alone dry bluffing)

Hopefully I didn't just paraphrase my last post, stoner fuck.

Play tight. Don't bluff unless you have to.

Take the lower variance approach to almost every situation except when ur jamming pre 12a or 3bai

PLO 2xs/Random SG thoughts

I'm starting to be able to quantify why these PLO 2xs are such easy wins w/ the nitbox no play nut peddal style: As opposed to NL (where ppl know what they're doing more anyhow) big hands collide all the time, esp w/ people playing weak holdings. Unless you run into a table w/ 4>nits, assuming 10-handed, tight is right.

So... though PLO is higher variance, playing really tight is lower variance in this structure, as long as the other players keep busting each other. Pick your spots really well. Watch Jason. How often does he lose?

AI blind is not so bad in PLO @ least not HU. 45%

I wonder if I couldn't start my day by opening every PLO 2x in Cake... then sitting out! lol

REMINDER TO SELF ABOUT EXCELLENT STRUCTURE ON CAKE'S 1 TABLE NON-TURBO SGS. It still has the quick jumps, but it has 10 min levels.

I feel more confident in that game than a $2 PLO8 sg right now. I'm ok @ those, and the structure on Merge is excellent. Only play them when you really want to. If you do, get a little more agro and positional post-flop. Semi-bluff more. Don't back down if a tight player calls your sm flop bet. Barrel again if it makes sense.

Here goes. Future uncertain other than I have this list, these ads, and these games. I have to be more excited about how fast the HORSE game filled up and have faith. WETF w/ Joe. If Margy's hosting the NL games, I just need to stay on good terms w/ her, which is np.

So... thoughts on each game, specific playres etc

Jerry is going to come @ you light from LP. Defend light & check-raise dry flops?

Don't play many pots oop. Bet flop to get a free card in pos for pot control

Elvin: Don't go for check-raises or slowplay. Keep in mind he does like to slowplay

Just do you. Limp up front and see what the vibe is. Depending on seating, bring it in for a raise vs. the blinds. Don't go nuts chasing A2 draws in short-handed pots. Keep in mind when ur going to be priced-in to go to the river if you call... IE jammed pre, raised or 3bet on flop

Just play good. I'm least worried about this, bc I am experienced

Add enough deception and slow-plays/free peels on 4th and 5th to make your bluff and semi-bluff raises get called. (b/c I'd slowplay if I had the real) Mix that up on 3rd, 4th, and sometimes 5th, if you're way ahead vs Elvin w/ a made 7 and he's drawing @ an 8 or 9.

Play tight. Raise w/ QQ>. Chip Reese re dead cards. Iso bad players w/ scary boards when folds to you in "LP" vs bring-in from Margy... anybody that seems to fold shitty hands w/ no fight.

Do you. Push pull. Don't be afraid to push.

Because this is a $2/4 game/higher than we've played in the home games/highest Limit poker I've played in a few months. (blush)... b/c this is a $2/4 game is not a reason to slowplay, flat, or limp in a spot where jamming is correct.

Go ahead and make a few weirdo plays in H. Just don't play pots OOP vs. good players or bet machines like Joe.

IE Jerry and Joe both fold = a different kind of hand than any other.

I've still yet to guage Richard's skill level/style, but he's not passive. Where does he fold in which games? What games does he chase light in?

Lineup: Elvin + Margy = targets, sharks: Jerry, LAGs Joe, solid Richard.

OK SO... THERE ARE 3 KINDS OF POTS

1. Jerry and Joe fold, so you might be able to get crafty.

-but don't bluff Elvin if he has a calling hand unless you can really rep something strong. His stationing + slowplays... always take a read too.

2. You are in a hand where you are heads-up against or have an op to ISO Margy or Elvin esp w/ pos. HO depends on seating. Be ready for if x and y fold in front of me, I can kick it into high gear

3. Hands against Jerry or Joe

-You'll have something if oop. Taking unconventional, trappy lines vs these guys, esp Joe is a good idea.

Make your default for playing monsters in Lim pots vs. Joe trappy.

IE Razz: If I slowplay a good board, he always thinks I paired. If we're HU, let him bet until 6th before raising or even the river if you think he could be airballing or possibly have it and 3bet.

Really just play solid ABC TAG positional poker. The seating really matters. Just remember that 3 kinds of pots rule.

Keep an eye on Richard for future weeks.

I DON'T KNOW IF IT'S NEW OR WHAT BUT THERE'S NOW A 3$ DAILY 3K STACKS MTT & THE 2100. I totally bombed out of that, running AK into KK.

Dude opened 4x. No meta. I had 2k total. His open was to 400. If I 3-bet smaller, I was gonna call his all-in. Maybe I shouldn't be auto-ready to go w/ AK that early.

What. so... I make it 1k... no. I min-raise leaving me w/ 1200 behind and no fold equity. 12bb. I think I had to go w/ that hand or fold it. A lot of those 4x+ opens from EP are marg hands like AJ, but some players are doing it w/ their big hands.

Exactly 4x usually means something. Keep your eyes peeled. I don't think I could've gotten away from that hand. I can't fold to a single raise. If I flat call w/ AKo in pos, the pot will be like 1k w/ 1200 behind, if nobody enters the pot behind me. Yea... not too many good options. Stacks were not deep enough to 3-bet to fold to his shove. I shoved myself. I totally had fold equity and am mostly up against QQ<, AQ< there. Oh well.

That's where Cake's big blind increases from 25/50 to 50/100 to 150/200... that's a lot of increases in a hurry. It's a key time to accumulate in SGs. I just think I won't play 1500 chip MTTs that much. There are better opportunities on Merge.

Great action game. Good group.

I played really well. Flopped a set of 4s vs Bobby oop and got a check-raise and turn bet out of him.

Most notably I straddled (whole round) and said something like "Let me pick-up Aces so I can get 'em cracked good" 3 over-callers, 2 of them call my $8 raise (16x total... lets see... the blinds $1.50, + 2x3... yea good bet size. Make it a little more w/ AK). It came something like K9x rainbow, I cbet $25 (pot) and took it down.

I had to show. I tell ya... I didn't feel this one coming in the air of the night, but I wasn't exactly surprised to see it happen either.

Pepito never loses, despite Bobby busting him up good.

There was one total vagifold I made in a 3-bet pot w/ AAQ92 2bl suited Aces. It was Pepito's BB so I over-limped. By the time it got back to me it was 4-bet. I should've just jammed or called but I folded. I would've flopped top pair and the nut flush draw and turned the flush, getting hell of value from Joe's lower flush.

If you think you're about to make a fear fold, just take longer. It will balance out the times where you tank check or tank bet timing-wise. You have to see a flop w/ that hand. I mistook the boomswitch feeling for the "fold" fairy on my shoulder. Just do the +EV thing. That would've been making the raise myself. I was +1 or 2.

Just stop doing that, esp when its such a small % of your stack. In PLO there just are spots where you have to call big pre-flop bets. I could've gone for stacks pre or on the flop. Had I just palyed the hand the standard way, I would've won a big pot, making the session a big win, not a marginal win.

I was up $40 (80bb) when we broke the game.

So I just raped Pepito for 200bb + in a PLO8 hand. I was big winner today. Joe had a good sesh too.

seating Joe, Rick, Elvin, me, pepito (most of game 5hndd, P last to show up, directly on my L).

I have AA57 w/ 3 hearts. Joe folded, Rick limped, Elvin over-limped. I decided I was gonna limp from the c/o to call or re-raise, depending on what happened after Pepito raised the pot and it got back to me. I nearly jammed there, but spidey sense said trap, and I like seeing a flop there anyhow. He might fold if I jammed, and AA59 overloaded w/ hearts is not that great a hand.. I'm oop...
He did raise the pot, and I think he does there telgraph or no telegraph a huge % of the time in that spot.

Everybody else folds, and it's on me. I decide on flatting, mostly on spidey sense equity and not wanting him to fold.

So I have Ah5h7d9h

Flop Ts 8h 6h, the whole world draw and Aces. I'm oop and check to him. He bets like 2/3 pot, and I proceed to repot it to $33 in his eye on the super semi-bluff. He FLATS! The turn is a low heart, and I shove my remaining stack instantly, like I was gonna do it no matter what. (which I prob was)

Here's the best part. He called me w/ TT93, no low, just naked top set. When the chips went in, he was drawing to pair da board for 1/2 the pot. No pair. Rape kit, please. I've been waiting to do that for a while. Kid is relentless. I love that I got him to flat my check-raise so I put the pressure on him w/ the shove/confused him/owned him.

Classic case of a good NL avg PLO/Lim O8 player going crazy w/ just the high. I guess he didn't think I was capable of semi-bluffing like that. I was. Like I'm going nuts w/ just A2 there. Anyhow....

So that was fun. He also then open completed xxJ in razz then criticized me for missing a 4th st sm bet check raise vs. Joe. I had 57 showing, joe 68. My hole cards were T6, so I was semi-bluffing to set up 5th st bet and take, which is what happened when Joe bricked out. lolz. He is not well but he's good @ it. I really wanted to tell him what I had, so he knew he was wrong. Then I didn't.

Had to tell somebody who'd appreciate the meta etc. I got him finally & in a classic plo8 freeroll spot. My hand connected w/ teh board pretty well there. :)

Cake PLO 2x/GEN 2X STRATEGY

I played a $2 PLO double up just now on Cake and won. I was only really in jeapordy 1x. I mostly used no play strategy. The opponents were not as LAG as carbon, but this was jut 1 table.

Anyhow, I took it down. It involved shoving into the afks bb UDG w/ a46t2s. I had <10bb/was in last. Ok so I was vulnerable twice. Somebody coulda gone nuts and called me there. I like my hand heads-up pre, but that's not the point. There were several stacks that were in the bubble zone. Mathematically I'll make it in there.

In the end, despite the afk player having <1bb @ 300/600 the lagidiot prideful Russian on my L shoved for 1450 and of course got called in 2 spots by a player w/ a hand and the big stack. AFK would've been all-in dark, having to survive some serious shit to make a meaningful double-up.

5min levels are quick. I like sitting out @ certain times.

Speaking of which... when not to sit out. If there are a bunch of similar stack sizes to yours on the bubble, like today, don't go afk. The table will OFTEN shift into, "ok lets get him" mode. So you have to stick in there, even if you plan to fold until ai dark b/c you think one of 'em will do themselves.
If you are gonna sit out, here are some things that should be happening
1. @ least 2 stacks that are really short
2. There is an afk @ the table who is short, so the table will just bust him
3. You are in LP, are folding pretty much any 4 b/c nobody's a soft blind, and you think there are other short stacks that are likely to go crazy.

It's all 45/55. Anyhow, I've found these. I can play them on Cake too. I really don't need a hud to know who's active. There's like no 3-betting in these ever... well come to think carbon might play a little faster.

Lolsamplesize. Compared to the avg carbon $1 plo 2x where there are usually a couple few laggy palyers spewing/splashing/accumulating w/ bad play... players who are way too active early on. The cake players were a bit better, but this was a $2.

It's great when there's a LAG @ the table w/ a big stack that doesn't nit up. It's like having a 2nd player. He's pounding away on all the other bubble stacks' blinds, so I don't have to. Hopefully he'll get them all-in, so I don't have to flip.

Sure... I'll go w/ certain hands when I get short.... It's 45/55, and we're still 6hnn on the bubble. Since it pretty much always comes down to flipping in the end, be willing to fold down really low, just not so low that the other players will immediately switch to "lets get him" mode. MCU it but not to the point where a single double-up won't put you back into the hunt.

That's a great concept. In these things simply don't let your stack get retarted short. (there are no antes) It is going to come down to a flip, whether you have 3bb or 7. If the avg stack is 5bb, you're flipping to get back in the race. It's your turn. If you're low enough where you need the quad up to be a player, then you fucked up or just lost a pot. You must call from the bb w/ any 4 other than trips. So there's that.

Also gen 2x paint by numbers bubble strategy. WHEN THERE IS A LAGBOX w/ a big stack raising a lot pre-flop on the bubble and you are one of a few vulnerable stacks, it's ok to play tighter than you normally would. Like I said, it's like you have a 2nd player doing what you need to, KO 1 other player. Accumulating is great and necessary, but the game is KO that 6th player and double up. It lets you take fewer risks and DRASTICALLY IMPROVES your chances off eeking in w/ no play/afk/w/e.

Also, when somebody moves in and gets called, the lagtard is often going to call too, just to try to get it over w/... and b/c that's what they tend to do. Sometimes it goes the other way. Player who isn't that short opens, lagtard calls, somebody else shoves, player 1 had a hand to raise with and will
1. call the all-in, which will almost certainly lead to the chip leader LTARD calling as well. He has them both covered. This only works if he has a lotta chips and is willing to keep playing LAG.
2. Vag up/was raising light and original raiser gets squeezed out, LTARD is always calling shorty's all-in W/ PLAYER 1S DEAD $ IN THERE AND THE ABILITY TO END THE MATCH WILL ALMOST ALWAYS MAKE THE LTARD CALL. HE ALREADY SAID HE HAD A CALLING HAND.

SO A GENERAL PRINCIPLE OF BUBBLE PLAY IN THESE. THE MORE CHIPS THE LTARDS HAVE THE BETTER. THE MORE LTARDS THE BETTER, ASSUMING THE OTHER SHORT STACKS ARE NITTING UP TOO AND THERE'S NOBODY EXTRA SHORT.

They keep chat off on Cake. Good idea. I might have pointed out to Ivan that he just had to fold through until afk was all-in 2x for his SG w/ LTARD directly to his right.

THERE'S ANOTHER ONE. BEING TO THE RIGHT OF AN AKF PLAYER IS AN OBVIOUS ADVANTAGE. MOSTLY TAKE ADVANTAGE OF IT WHEN IT'S BOB OR YOU'RE THE BUTTON W/ A NIT IN THE BB. IF THE AFK IS ON YOUR L, YOU'RE GETTING WALKS BUT YOU'RE ALSO GETTING ATTACKED A LOT LIGHTER BY THE OTHER PLAYERS, SINCE THEY ONLY HAVE TO GET THROUGH YOU ON HIS SB.

BASICALLY... AFK ON YOUR LEFT GOOD. AFK ON YOUR RIGHT ONLY GOOD IF YOU HAVE CHIPS OR WILL OFTEN GET WALKED ON THE BUBBLE.

Cake/32s can eat me

I got 4th in a rtr fr on cake yesterday. I AFKd the FT w/ 9 players left. My screen was frozen on me 2nd in chips w/ 40k, suggesting that my AFK was killing the game somehow... I gotta look @ that hh now actually.

Re-reading One Hand at a Time, I just came accross an example (hand #59) where 32s went down in flames, and it motivated me to speak up about my second-least-favorite hand.

I understand why you like the hand, and the reasons why even someone as elevated as Elky would find virtues therein. What goes unsaid is that it is ultimately a trash hand.

When 32s makes one pair, it is always bottom pair.
When 32s makes two pair, it is always bottom two pair.
When 32s makes trips, it is always with no kicker.
When 32s makes a flush, it is always the smallest possible.
When 32s makes a full house, it is always the under-full.

The only way 32s can make the nuts is with quads, a straight-flush, or with A45XY where X and Y are neither an A, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, or 3rd flush card.

That's part of why Elky is at pains to explain that 32s is a stealing hand. It's a hand you would play in situations where you could make a good argument for playing ATC. And since Elky is basically a higher-level-thinking-than-Gus-Hansen-but-otherwise-pretty-much-just-Gus-Hansen type player, that means the spots are interchangable. 32s does have its virtues, primarily the seldomness with which it's outright dominated since good players will fold A2-3/K2-3 in spots where they would play 74o (i.e. bb defense) because they're basically playing a 1 card hand that's dominated by the widest slice of your range.

Highly intelligent people have to guard against their own powers of rationalization. Sufficiently smart people can rationalize practically anything: that Morrissey is the greatest musician ever, that redistribution of income is somehow not a form of theft (Bobby, feel free to offer up the reciprocal about capitalists "earning" their wealth), or that 32s is a "good" hand. We're intelligent enough to convince ourselves of just about anything. Our intelligence can be our own worst enemy.

It'll always be impossible to truly quantify how much hitting "well disguised hands" should allow us to open our rang, but I also disagree w/ this shit. Kick it up a few notches, and I'm sold. Suited connectors are profitable hands to play w/ non shallow stacks.

Maybe super deep-stacked it's worth playing in certain spots, but I think you rarely have enough chips in a typical MTT to justify playing this shit. I don't think we're rocking the boat but suggesting that's the case. Bobby has a boner for those hands and is better than us @ tournaments. I bet Jerry's gonna lose $ in the long run vpip w. 32s, and he plays GREAT. Bobby plays 32s UDG to set up post-flop steals w/ making a hand as a distant back-up plan. Elky suggesting it has all this implied odds/show-down value is... I dunno uh... incorrect? So yes, again, agree w/u there.

I think the rule of 3 and 6, 5 and 10 as discussed in Kill Everybody is a pretty decent guideline for playing marginal hands in relation to your stack size/effective stack size, and I doohohnnn't remember 32s being mentioned, not in the main text or Elky's commentary, which basically said he thinks the rule of 5 and 10 is the nuts, kinda contradicting himself. (you know what I mean?.you read that? I can clarify) Oh... well you've for sure read MTTs 1 tbl x a time, so u know what I mean)

It would be interesting to run a simulation where you gave your man 32s every hand in a super deep-stack event w/ long levels and see how he does, even if computer hero plays 32 optimally post-flop to the best of the simulation's ability. I'll hazard a guess.... -EV.

Maaaahhhyyyyybe in a super deep-stacked cash game the implied odds are there, but you'd still have to hit one of very few flops or be in a spot where (if you hit a flush ie) and your opponent shows strenght, wft then? A hand from a session u and I played @ San Pab comes to mind. I'd been card dead and had that dude hero me w/ Ahi suckout on my 99 no w no draw... prob all-in on the turn. He had A3-A6o, no draws but hte "pair draw." Just thought I was going nuts, the table nit. I miss San Pablo.

OK point is:

2nd buy-in went to a hand where I flopped a heart flush from one of the blinds w/ 23s, ran into 2 bigger flushes and stacked off. There wasn't a pair on the board.
I had a flush and I was oop so I put a bunch of chips in the pot. By the time I got the bad news, it was too late and I was committed. We weren't super deep. Maybe if we were I would've folded. I dunno; I was pretty fishy then. w/ typical 100bb< stacks, it's hard not to lose a bunch of chips whether I run into 1, 2 or > higher flushes.
